COURSE OUTLINE / CONTENT

An excellent, practical seminar covering design, fabrication, inspection and repair using real examples. This is a hands-on seminar and computer lab, using the CODECALC and PV-Elite software to allow students to gain practical experience with design and analysis problems.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Vessel and heat exchanger designs

  • Simple stress levels

  • Joint efficiency and design

  • Heads

  • API 579 Fitness for Service

  • Rigging

  • Materials of construction - Selection, low temperature requirements, post weld heat treatment

  • Fatigue & thermal stress - how vessels are impacted and how to assess and calculate these effects

  • Complex Calculations (How do I solve the difficult problems and the problems not addressed in the Code?)

  • Description of Finite Element Techniques and examples of applications.

  • Flanges, Gaskets & Bolting

  • Horizontal Vessels & Zick Analysis - Saddle Design

  • Inspection & Quality Control - Inspector Duties, Engineer and Fabricator, including suggestions for the end user.

  • Repairs and alterations. 

  • Check Lists for Design, QC & Shop Fabrication

  • Area Reinforcement

  • Nozzles & External Loads

  • Flanges

Who Should Attend
Engineers and designers representing Manufacturers, Consultants, and Inspectors involved with designing, shop fabrication, maintenance, repair, and inspection of pressure vessels and heat exchangers.

Seminar Text and Software
Participants will receive class notes which summarize the course concepts and illustrate these concepts with examples.  Each user will be provided with a computer and our CODECALC and PV-Elite software.

Daily Schedule

The seminar runs 8:30 am to 5:00 pm daily.
